Dominion Evidence eliminates doubt and brings you to enjoy your God as His true and legal representative of His kingdom on earth. Remember that as a Christocrat*, your family, neighbors, co-workers, city, nation and the world is looking to see the evidence of your claims of a relationship with the King of this universe. Evidence in our context is defined as a plain, visible, conspicuous proof of a claim or a charge. It is that which is undisputable- an authentic demonstration, affirmation, manifestation or certainty of the truth or position so claimed.
It was such a position and claim that the prophet Elijah of Israel stood on Mount Carmel before King Ahab with his four hundred and fifty (450) prophets of Baal, four hundred (400) prophets of groves, and the entire nation of Israel who gathered. He said to them “Let us settle once and for all who is really the true God that should be worshipped” - because Baal worship had been introduced in Israel by Ahab and his wife Jezebel. He challenged Israel and the king and said to them:
“How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal be god, then follow him.” 1 Kings 18:21
To Elijah, the only way to settle this issue would be by DOMINION EVIDENCE so overwhelming that no one will dispute the claim as to who is the real God to be worshipped. Accordingly, he proposed to them a contest of sacrifice by fire- which was a traditional way in which God is approached.
Therefore, he said, “let an animal of sacrifice be brought to the large number of the prophets of Baal and one for him the prophet of God of Israel. However, let no fire be brought.” After the prophets of Baal dress the altar and place the animal of sacrifice and he the same, then Elijah said to them before the king and all the people:
You (prophet of Baal) call on the name of your gods and I will call on the name of the LORD, and the God that answers by fire (the one who sends fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice) He is the true God. 1 Kings 18:24
The scripture tells us that both prophets of Baal, the king and the people agreed that this was a good way to settle the matter. Having agreed, the prophets of Baal were asked by Elijah to be the first to begin the process. According to the biblical record in 1 Kings 18:25-29, fire did not come to consume the sacrifice of the prophets of Baal because Baal as a god is powerless and has no ability to kindle fire out of no fire. After the failure and inability of Baal and his prophets, Elijah asked the people to come near and observe him construct the altar of God – he did this openly as all the prophets, the king, and people watched. His goal was to show true evidence that he represented the True God. Upon completion of the altar construction and placing of the animal of sacrifice, he called upon God. Notice his line of prayer:
“Hear me O LORD, hear me that this your people may know that you are the LORD God, and that you have turned their hearts back to you again.” 1 Kings 18:37
After this prayer, the Bible states that the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, the wood, and licked up the water that was in the trench. “And when all the people SAW it [EVIDENCE] they fell on their faces: and they said “The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.” –1 Kings 18:38-39.
